Mark Choate
Portfolio Manager
With over 50 years of investment experience, Mark brings a depth to Malaga Cove Capital for which there are no shortcuts. His many years as Senior Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager at Smith Barney were spent building and perfecting a partnership and investment discipline with Al Walsh that became the foundation for Malaga Cove Capital.
Mark and Cindy are proud of three grown children and four grandchildren. Mark is a falconer. He also finds time for photography, publishing and varied musical interests. Cindy is a past president of Peninsula Committee for Childrens Hospital, and is still very active in the committee. She’s also still trying to find her golf game. They have travelled extensively and hope to do more in the future.
Al Walsh
Portfolio Manager
Al has over 30 years of professional investment experience. His career began as a Senior Vice President, Portfolio Manager at Smith Barney, where he and Mark worked together for over 10 years. In 2008, Mark and Al founded Malaga Cove Capital LLC., whereby they have gradually designed a consistent, yet dynamic investment platform that continues to be honed upon. Their many years together have yielded a team approach that is unique within the discipline of portfolio management.
Al and his wife, Kelly, have raised two sons and one daughter while residing on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for over 25 years. Kelly owns and operates In-Tec Inc., a specialty tooling company for aerospace. Among other volunteer efforts, Kelly and Al are actively involved with the Peninsula Committee Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Al Walsh IV
Associate
Al graduated cum laude from Texas Christian University in 2023, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in finance and accounting. His journey toward the Chartered Financial Analyst designation commenced in his final semester where he passed Level I of the CFA Program in May 2023. He is currently a CFA Level II candidate.
His career began at Fidelity Investments, where Al honed his skills in client relations while obtaining essential licenses, including the SIE, Series 7, and Series 63. Now, at Malaga Cove Capital, Al is eager to leverage his expertise and transfer his strong client relationship skills to Malaga Cove Capital.
